Update:  April 21, 2018

We did it! The Master Plan is starting soon!

It's official! The Los Angeles City Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement between the Bureau of Engineering (Engineering) and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), which allows us to begin the Silver Lake Reservoir Complex Master Plan process. A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who signed our petition, attended community meetings, and reached out to our City Council and DWP staff to support this process. We want to extend our special thanks to Councilmembers O'Farrell and Ryu, as well as their staffs, who have been supportive of the need for a master plan and who were instrumental in creating this opportunity for our community. Big thanks for LADWP for providing the funding and starting the process, to the Mayor and the Public Works Commission for their support, and to the Bureau of Engineering for seeing the potential to create an incredible public space.

The City has approved close to $3 Million to support a robust and thorough master planning process. The first opportunity for the public to provide input to the Master Plan process is happening on Tuesday, May 1st, where the selection of a consultant will be discussed.

Silver Lake Reservoir Master Plan Community Meeting:

Tuesday May 1, 2018 -- 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.

Friendship Auditorium - 3201 Riverside Drive, LA, CA 90027

According to Councilmember Mitch O'Farrell's announcement: "The Master Plan will guide improvements and protection of the reservoirs, and seek to balance its historic character, its use as a community gathering place, its strategic location within the Silver Lake community, and its unique blend of both functional and recreational spaces."

The draft scope of work for the Master Plan will be presented at the meeting, and the community will be able to comment on things like the areas currently slated to be reserved for DWP use and the criteria for selecting a consultant.

Between the opening of the South Dam for walking and the new Master Plan, it's an incredible time and we're happy to see things moving forward and our values of access, beauty, and conservation being put into practice!

Additionally, we want to acknowledge how great it's been to work with our Coalition Partners: The Silver Lake Reservoirs Conservancy and Silver Lake now. The Coalition was out in force at the opening of the South Dam, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate on the future of the Reservoir complex.

We encourage the Silver Lake Forward Community to attend on 5/1, and we look forward to seeing you there. Feel free to email [email protected] with any questions or ideas before the meeting!
