Embrace the Lake

Save the date for "Embrace the Lake" the first annual celebration of the Silver Lake Reservoir Complex - it's happening this Sunday at the Reservoir!

On Sunday, October 23rd we'll have a day of fun and outdoor activities for families, neighbors, and the community at the Silver Lake Reservoir Recreation Center lawn. We're creating this event in partnership with deLaB - Design East of La Brea.

We'll have guided walks around the lake so that people can learn about the history of the reservoir, the construction underway, and think about the potential of this incredible public space. There will be food, fun activities, and presentations about Silver Lake Forward and our ideas for the future of the land, lake, and community.

The event will kick off at 10 AM with a guided walk about the future of the Lake - Margot Jacobs will be leading the morning walk. Margot is a landscape architect and designer, Her approach to placemaking combines strategic thinking, community engagement, and sustainable practices to enhance environments and promote meaningful connections. Margot is an Associate at Mia Lehrer and Associates and serves on the Green LA Water Committee.

After the AM walk, we'll have a community picnic with yummy pizza donated by Tomato Pie Pizza in Silver Lake! There will be kids activities, an interactive map, a fun photo booth, and the chance to buy a sweet Embrace the Lake t-shirt!

Our second walk at 1 PM will focus on the history of Silver Lake and will be guided by Bob Inman, who has lived nearly his entire life in Los Angeles residing in the neighborhoods of Silver Lake, Highland Park and Eagle Rock. His education followed a classic LA city path: Ivanhoe->King->Marshall->Occidental. He has enjoyed a lifelong passion for walking, in wilderness as well as in cities. As of the end of 2013, Bob has led over 1800 participants on seven dozen walks in four years. He is the author of "A Guide to the Public Stairways of Los Angeles".

Please join us on Sunday, October 23rd at The Silver Lake Recreation Center!
